The WA Museum in Geraldton has some great exhibits relating to the Dutch shipwrecks along the nearby coast in the 1600s and 1700s, including the Batavia.
Another major exhibit tells the story of the light battle cruiser, HMAS Sydney II, and its encounter with the German raider HSK Kormoran in November 1941. We will never know why the Sydney approached so close to an unidentified ship and was effectively ambushed with the loss of all lives on board. The resting place of the Sydney was not found until March 2008.
