Sunday, 22 June to Tuesday 24 June – We’re Going To South Australia

An hour or so after an early start in the dark of a wintry Melbourne Sunday we (David and Maree) met Gordo, Kaz, don and Lyn at Maccas on the other side of the metropolis. We had our heart starters and continued towards Bendigo with the rain and cloud closing in. After mornos at Marong we battled a headwind the rest of the day until reaching a cheap camp at Walpeup, just west of Ouyen.

Next morning the headwinds hit us again then the rain started. We eventually reached Cadell by the Murray River where we had another cheap camp. This is where we met up with David and Chris.

On the third day the headwinds were even worse causing our fuel consumption to dramatically increase. We had a welcome early lunch stop in Burra where we had coffee and Cornish pasties. Late afternoon saw us reach Quorn which seems have a lot of recently closed businesses. However, the pubs are still operating so we had a team dinner at the Criterion before splitting up next day into two lots of four.
