Wednesday, 6 August – Edith Falls (sort of)

As usual (it seems) we once again have only a fairly short drive planned for the day. After driving about 30Km from our last camp spot we stopped for coffee and chips at Hayes Creek on recommendation from someone. This is where these is a butterfly area hidden away in a gap in a nearby mountain range. Butterfly Gap lived up to its name and put on a great display of butterflies, albeit only one species.

We then made our way toward Edith Falls, planning to camp there for 2 nights. There was a sign at the turn off from the highway stating all caravan sites were full so we set up a camp near the Edith River, just off the highway. We drove into Edith Falls for a swim and also found out that if we queued up there at 9:30am we would get a camp next night.

Next morning we had a conflab and decided to stay at our free camp and just do a day trip into Edith Falls. Back at the falls camp ground we started with coffee then we walked to the upper falls and had a swim. On our return to the main pool near the camp ground we had lunch, waited the required number of minutes and had another swim followed by an ice cream.
